Welcome to Goring!

Welcome to our site about Goring on Thames and some of the activities in the village which we support.

Goring is a pleasant village of around 2,500 inhabitants about half way between Reading and Oxford on the Thames, and has a mixture of long time residents and commuters who live in harmony together, without the pretensions of villages closer to London.  We like it anyway, and when we moved to the area in 1989 our first impressions of Goring were so good that we decided to look for a house here.

Goring is good to bring up a family.  There is an excellent primary school, enough Children in the village for good social life and sports teams, and many societies and clubs.  There is also a hotel and three pubs (two hotels and four pubs if you include adjoining Streatley).  You can find out more and see some pictures by following the link.

There are also three Churches in Goring, an Anglican, a Catholic and the United Reform Church.  We share in the active community of St. Thomas of Canterbury, and are part of the Choir there.  St. Thomas' dates back to c1100ad, and you can find out more by following the link.

Goring has hosted the Caroline Wardle cycle of Mediaeval Mystery Plays, which have been performed over the late May bank holiday week end over the last few years.  Follow this link to find out more.

We area also members of the Pantomime society which puts on such classics as Aladdin, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.  Follow this link to find out more.
